I came across an article in The Globe And Mail the other day that once again shows how marketers grab on to food fads and ride them for all they are worth. The ingredient being exploited was gluten, more accurately the lack thereof in gluten free products. The fact that some people have adverse affects to gluten is undisputed and I am not here to rush to its defense. What I take issue with is the mass marketing of gluten free products as health food. Some of the products never contained gluten in the first place and some of them are less healthy when manufactured using gluten free sources. Its no different than marketing butter as low carb or licorice as low fat. Give the link below a read and give some thought next time your buying a product just because it is gluten free. Have a good day.
