The cookie cutter approach does not cut it.

You can be just like me!
I just wanted to make a really brief post about a short conversation I had with a client today. This client was telling me about a acquaintance of hers that had hired an online trainer to help her prepare for a special event this spring. She was looking for the typical result that many people are looking for, basically to lose some fat and tone up so she could look her best. I saw no problem with hiring some help online, after all that is a big part of how I make my own living, so I know that online coaching can be effective in helping people reach their goals. The problem I saw was when she told me this expert had not had a conversation with her, phone or otherwise, seen any pictures of her, and had not obtained any lifestyle and training history at all. The extent of the interaction had been a short questionnaire regarding basic information like age, weight, and height, and a liability waiver. Now I am not here to bash anybodies business, that's not the point I am trying to make, but to base someones program on so few details just tells me they are basing it on nothing at all. It is more of a one size fits all approach. Once payment is made a PDF file is sent off and there you have it. Program complete. This my friends in not coaching. I think everyone would agree that they are an individual and should be treated as such. Just like we don't all wear the same size of shoes, we all don't respond the same to training and eating protocols. These are what I call cookie cutter programs. Everybody gets the same program and diet, everybody makes changes to the program and diet at the same time, everybody gets the same result. Well maybe not. Sorry but we are not making gingerbread men here. If we were all exactly the same, life might just be a little too boring. Training people would sure be easy though. almost any Tom, Dick, or Harriet could be a trainer then... wait a minute. Never mind. That's a different blog.

Have a good day.
